Best Brunch in London for Families: 2017’s Top 9 List!

(Guest Blog by @MamaMimosaLDN) Brunch is the perfect meal for parents, you’ve been up since 4am so you’re starving and you’re going to be first in beating anyone with a hangover to the best tables. London restaurants often offer bottomless prosecco to accompany your Eggs Benny but aren’t always overly keen on another kind of accompaniment, namely your kid(s). Below is a list of tried and tested “Best Brunch in London for Families” spots, which are not only great places to eat but will happily drag out a highchair and coo at your baby.

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #1: The Delauney Aldwych

Eggs Benedict at The Delauney Aldywych, one of london's best brunch spots for families

The Delauney is the kind of place that makes me think of continental Europe in a Hitchcock film. And it does the best Eggs Benedict in all of London, no hyperbole. It’s always busy so you’re best to reserve in advance here and let them know your requirements.

✅ highchairs available but they’re on the large side.

✅ cool with breastfeeding

❌ loads of other parents

✅ space for buggies

❌ There’s no official children’s menu but there’s lots that would work, plus wonderful cakes and ice creams as a reward for behaving so well in the fancy restaurant

❌ toys/play area

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #2: Foxlow Balham

Best Brunch in London with eggs at Foxlow Balham

Foxlow in Balham is a parents dream come true. Across the road from Milk which often has a queue blocking Hildreth street and can be a little frosty toward babies, comparatively Foxlow has much more space, they’re incredibly laid back, don’t bat an eye at a buggy and honestly I think the food is better. Plus they’ve got a license so you can get a cocktail. Thank god.

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #3: Plaquemine Lock

Delicious Langoustines at one of London's best brunch finds for families

Plaquemine Lock is a beautiful ode to New Orleans Creole and Cajun cooking. It’s taken residency in an old boozer hiding behind Angel station and because it’s off the beaten track, it’s quiet. The food here is authentic, the portions are decent, the whole place just has a really good vibe and they’ve just launched a brunch menu. It’s honestly a hidden gem in London’s restaurant scene. Have the Beignets, you won’t regret it.

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #4: Dishoom Kings Cross

Amazing Naan Bread at Dishoom Kings Cross

Ah Dishoom, highly stylised, eccentric, aromatic and full of energy. This place buzzes and is full of colour. It’s a great place to take your kids. The breakfasts here are a real treat and their bacon naan is still making top 100 dish lists all over the place. Set over two floors, there’s ample space, dining is available both inside and out so no need to worry bout the buggy.

✅ Baby change facilities

✅ highchairs available

✅ cool with breastfeeding

❌ loads of other parents

✅ space for buggies

✅ Adorable kids menu

❌ toys/play area- technically no but the whole place is decorated very busily and little ones will have A LOT to look at.

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #5: Dominique Ansell Bakery Victoria

Cronut at Dominique Ansell is one of the best brunch in london finds!

The home of the infamous cronut, is I think, worth the hype. The bakery is bright and modern, full of incredible treats both sweet and savoury and there’s enough room to get around the tables with a buggy. The only caveat is that if you’re looking for a cocktail they don’t serve them. Each month they feature a different flavour cronut, the banoffee paella and the cookie shots (only available after 3pm) are particularly lovely.

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #6: Monty’s Deli

Meal at Monty's Deli in London

Monty’s deli serves up Jewish comfort food, think Reubens, blintzes and mean bloody Marys, it’s also a dream for babies. It’s loud and busy and they made space for not one but two buggies with delight on our visit, whilst they fawned over our children. The booths are a tight squeeze though which makes it difficult (though not impossible) to give a bottle or boob. Let them know in advance that you’re bringing a buggy or you need a highchair. They have baby changing facilities too.

✅ Baby change facilities

✅ highchairs available – the ikea ones

✅ cool with breastfeeding – although as mentioned above the booths make it a bit tricky

❌ loads of other parents

✅ space for buggies

❌ There’s a kids menu

❌ toys/play area

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #7: Sparrow Lewisham

Amazing Brunch in london at Sparrow Lewisham

Newly opened Sparrow is a frantic diamond in the rough. They’re still working out the kinks – when we went for brunch it was cash only and several items on the menu weren’t available ‘yet’ – but the cooking is very fine, as to be expected from the ex-St. John chefs running the kitchen. These guys know what they’re doing.

You’ll need to make a reservation, they were turning people away throughout our meal but service is speedy and attentive. It’s also crash bang loud due to the open kitchen, great for babies who like noise and bustle. If this place was my local, I’d have a standing reservation each weekend. I highly recommend the coconut, caramel peanut and pineapple pancakes.

✅ highchairs available but you’ll need to request one when booking

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #8: Duck and Waffle Local

Duck and Waffle in London is one of the best brunch spots for families

The original Duck & Waffle is based in Heron tower and has exceptional views of London. I went once and only on entering the elevator which is made of glass and tacked to the outside of the building did I realise how afraid of heights I am.

Thankfully they’ve opened another restaurant on street level which I like to think of as simply lower, cheaper and faster but otherwise just as excellent and inventive as it’s predecessor. All based around duck dishes the food here is wonderful.

There’s plenty of room for buggies, they were perfectly accommodating and the music is playing at a level where you can hear yourself speak but can barely detect your kid grizzling. Even if they yell, it shouldn’t disturb other diners. Also, service is lightning fast and will suit impatient kids.

✅ highchairs available

✅ cool with breastfeeding

❌ loads of other parents

✅ space for buggies

❌ no kid’s menu but an adventurous kid will find something they like

  • Best Brunch in London for Families #9: Giant Robot

Best Brunch in London for Families #9 - Giant Robot

Ok ok so technically this is more of a lunch spot but number 1. It is hugely kid friendly and number 2. All the portions are double for the same price on Sundays. There’s also two bars ~ one cocktail, the other craft beer and free wifi.

There are five street food traders Yumplings, Yumbun, Little Jose, Bob’s Lobster and Thunderbird so there are considerable options all equally delicious.

There’s no table service here so you can be in and out quickly if necessary and when you need somewhere to retreat to with a screaming child there is a sky garden with walkways just outside, all undercover in event of rain. I recently ran a mum’s meet up at Giant Robot and they bent over backwards to help us with our children and made us feel incredibly welcome. I highly recommend a visit here.
